Health & Safety
Manor Farm Montessori Nursery School accepts responsibility to safeguard the health, safety and welfare of both the children in their care and the staff, and will work to achieve a safe and healthy environment. The nursery school will at all times conform to the Local Authority Policy on Health and Safety.
Accident and Emergency Procedures
The nursery school will have a First Aid Box and at least one member of staff who has received recognised training in First Aid.
All accidents must be fully recorded and parents/carers must be informed as soon as possible.
If emergency treatment is needed, staff will accompany children to the hospital, as long as parents have signed a consent form.
All incidents will be looked at and steps taken to ensure that it does not happen again.
Staff should always be on the look-out for possible hazards and to minimise the risk of accidents.
Illnesses and Infections
If children become unwell at the nursery school they will be cared for and, every effort will be made to contact the parents promptly. To this end it is important that the school is kept informed of any change in emergency contact numbers. Parents/carers will be informed of possible contact with contagious or notifiable disease, so that medical advice can be obtained.
48 hours is a minimum amount of leave following vomiting or diarrhea.
Parents/carers should also inform nursery staff of the possible exposure of children, to any contagious disease. Infectious diseases such as Diarrhoea, Sickness, Conjunctivitis, Chicken Pox, German Measles are highly contagious and may be a danger to pregnant mothers.
Children who are ill will not normally be accepted into the nursery school, however children who are taking a prescribed course of medicine but are otherwise well, will be accepted. We reserve the right to refuse admission to any child who appears ill on arrival and to remove any child to hospital in the case of an emergency.
Only medication prescribed by a Doctor or Qualified Homeopathic Practitioner and with written parental/carer permission can be given.
A book must be signed by the member of staff who gives the medicine and by the Principal or Deputy.
Children who need to use nebulizers will not be excluded from the nursery school. Staff will be trained in the use of this equipment by health professionals or from parents/carers who have been trained. All medication will be kept locked away, at the correct temperature.
Fire Precautions
The nursery school has been inspected by an officer from the Fire Brigade and all recommendations made by the Brigade are carried out.
There is regular maintenance of fire extinguishers
Certificate of maintenance is available for inspection
A notice will be prominently displayed to explain the Fire Drill and all staff will be familiar with it.
Regular practice Fire Drills will be held so that the children know what is expected of them and the building can be evacuated in the shortest possible time. These are all recorded.
Good Hygiene Practice
All staff in the nursery school will maintain high standards of personal and work hygiene at all times.
If any parent/carer has any concerns regarding health and safety issues they should report them to the Principal immediately.
Gloves and aprons are worn at all times when dealing with cuts or changing nappies
